Sites on the Internet that are General Search Engines
are used to find the information that you are trying to view. These sites
are a cross reference to point you to the site(s) that have the
information that you want to view. But in using these sites there are
some things to keep in mind.
No one Search Engine is a cross reference to all the information on
the Internet.
The same information can be contained in multiple search engines.
Description of Topic you want to view, maybe different between
Search Engines.
Only one Search Engine may contain the information that you want to view.
To better understand Search Engine functions, think of trying to find
information at a public library. First, assume that we would like to
find some information on 'Reducing Income Taxes'.
At library one, we go to the cross reference area of the library and look
up 'Income Taxes'. Within that topic there can be a number of books listed.
For the sake of this example, lets say there are ten books cross referenced.
Of the ten books, maybe eight are about 'Income Taxes' but NOT about
reducing taxes. The two books that are on 'Reducing Income Taxes', one
might be described as '101 Ways to Reduce Taxes' the other description
maybe 'Reducing Taxes and Avoiding Audits'.
Now lets go to another library, do the same search in the cross reference area. In this library, we could come up with twenty-five books on the subject area. There could be four books in this library about 'Reducing Income Taxes', three are books that weren't in the first library. The one maybe the book that was described in library one as '101 Ways to Reduce Taxes', only in this library it maybe described as 'Numerous Ways to Bring Down Taxes'.
As you can see, libraries can contain different books, the same books and even for the same books they can have different descriptions.
The Search Engines function in much the same way as our example above. When you use a Search Engine, you describe to it what you would like to find. It then returns to you a short description of the sites it thinks matches the subject matter that you are trying to view. Along with this description, the engine gives you the Internet address of where to find the detail Information. BUT THE SAME AS IN OUR EXAMPLE, DIFFERENT SEARCH ENGINES WILL GIVE DIFFERENT NUMBERS OF SITES TO VIEW. THE SAME SITE, COULD BE DESCRIBED DIFFERENTLY IN DIFFERENT SEARCH ENGINES.
