The Internet (or 'World Wide Web') is a collection of Information, some portion of the information will be of value to you and some has no value to you. It is the finding of the information that you want that is the hardest part of working with the Web. Because of the volume of what is there currently and the amount that is being added each day, there is no one place to look to find all the information that you want. In dealing with the Web the first things to learn are: a) You can't hurt / destroy or harm the Internet! (Don't be afraid of it) b) No one is looking at you! (Try different things) c) It will frustrate you! (Just keep trying different things) Because of the volume and the ease of getting at the information, there are more and more companies using the Web to conduct parts of their business. The uses include some of the basic things like personal communications (email / fax / voice), finding prospective employees, advertising, marketing, viewing competition's information, learning new procedures and many other things. If you are connected to the Internet, it doesn't matter if you are a one person office or an International firm with thousands of employees you can view the same information and have the advantages of that information. IF YOU USE IT, IF YOU DON'T USE THE INTERNET TO YOUR ADVANTAGE, SOMEONE ELSE WILL. In using the Internet there are a few basic terms that you should be aware of, not only because they are used in different parts of these classes. But they will more than likely come up when talking to other people about the Internet.
